Kanye West the CEO of G.O.O.D. Music and Don Jazzy the CEO of Nigerian based Mo’ Hit Records have recently signed a joint venture to produce music. Unlike a traditional record deal Mo’ Hit records will continue to operate independently from G.O.O.D Music. G.O.O.D Music wanted to sign Don Jazzy to a traditional music deal which Don Jazzy wisely refused.
According to Don Jazzy CEO of Mo’ Hit Records “we signed a merger and we are practically putting down the money to produce and do whatever we are going to do on our albums, This is costing us about $3 million; initially, they wanted to sign us on peanuts but we told them we wanted a merger,”. The merger will allow American consumers to get a taste of the West African style Hip Hop and R&B. The joint venture will include all of Mo’ Hit Records artist including Dr. Sid, Wande Cool, D’BanJ, D’ Prince and K-Switch. Mo’ Hit Records collaboration with G.O.O.D Music allows for global exposure to Nigerian music.
Mo’ Hit Records is a powerhouse in its own right. The company was founded in 2004 the same year as G.O.O.D. Music. The CEO Michael Collins Ajereh also known as Don Jazzy is a multi-winning record producer and singer-songwriter. His first album was released in 2004 called Tongolo. Since 2004 Don Jazzy has produced over 100 songs, over 30 top ten singles. The record label and its artist have sold over 50 Million records worldwide. It will be very interesting to see what type of music will come out of these two companies (to check out Mo’Hit Records artist click here). Hip Hop companies making global business deals? I can hear Biggie now from Juicy “Remember Rappin’ Duke, duh-ha, duh-ha/You never thought that hip hop would take it this far”.
